Principal's Welcome

Dear Families,

principal

Welcome to the Margaret Hendry School community page.  Here, you are provided with the opportunity to take  a glimpse into the contemporary environments that were designed to put children at the centre of their learning.

The unique design of our learning communities inspire a love of learning in all our children, as their personal interests, skills and areas of passion are seamlessly integrated into their everyday inquiries. The social aspect of learning is celebrated at Margaret Hendry School, with collaboration at the heart of all that we do. 21st century skills develop authentically as children work collaboratively across the school and within the broader community Through collective impact we can make great things happen and positively affect the world around us.

Our connection with family is seamless, as we join together to foster strong connections between school, home and the world around us. We actively encourage families to partner with us in the education of their children, inviting them to work alongside educators in the indoor and outdoor learning environments. By sharing valuable knowledge, skills and interests, families enrich and deepen the learning experiences for all children and contribute to a school culture built around respect.

The staff are an expert teaching team, empowered to meet the diverse learning needs of every student. Staff work collaboratively within and across multi-age learning communities to design, implement, assess and report on children’s development and learning outcomes.  Children celebrate their learning with families through digital platforms throughout the school day to allow parents to be active participants in their child’s learning.

By working together we will establish and nurture Margaret Hendry School to develop into the hub of the local community. Services offered will meet the needs of all family members for increased family support and participation. Examples include access to playgroups, targeted parent groups for defence families and those with English as an additional language or dialect and partnering with community agencies such as the Gungahlin Child and Family Centre.

At Margaret Hendry School we celebrate the diversity of our families and value children’s individual life experiences of community, culture, and relationships. We are committed to a close connection to nature that fosters a responsibility to our environment and an acknowledgement of the care of the land that has gone before from the original custodians of the land on which we live, work, and play, the Ngunnawal people.

We look forward to working in partnership with you.

With warm wishes,

Kate Woods
