Margaret Hendry School – Infrastructure Update

Margaret Hendry School Expansion

The Education Directorate commenced planning for the expansion of our school in 2021. This expansion will support and accommodate enrolment of up to an additional 600 students over the coming decade.

The last few months have seen significant progress on the expansion.

The new Community Hub is complete. The Hub provides a new multipurpose space for our school and community. A large space has been provided in front of the Hub where a community garden will be developed.

The carparks are now complete on the eastern and western boundaries of the school. These will help ease the congestion in the original carparks.

The school’s solar photovoltaic system has been expanded to 250kW and the new panels are in place. The new learning community building has advanced significantly.  The building is now watertight, with glazing installed and cladding work complete.

new bike store near the preschool carpark

The construction of the new bike store near the preschool carpark has commenced. This will provide more secure storage for bikes and scooters.

The entire scope of work is now expected to be complete in the first quarter of 2023.

Please be aware of the location of construction zones that have changed since last year. The plan below identifies these zones in yellow. A Temporary Traffic Management Plan, approved by Transport Canberra and City Services, is in place. This authorises the footpaths along Horse Park Drive (northern side) and Sutherland Crescent (western side) to be temporarily closed. This is to facilitate the safe installation and connection of the new sewer line for the High School. This is marked in green on the image below.
