Playgroup

Playdate in the Park Playgroup

Do you have a new baby? Have you moved to the local community? Are you looking to make new friends for your child/ren and yourself? Then a playgroup may be the perfect answer.

Margaret Hendry School in partnership with Northside Community Service hosts a playgroup on Wednesday mornings between 9:30am - 11am during school term. The Playgroup is expected to become community-led over time, meaning that the parents/caregivers who regularly attend will naturally start to manage and organise it.

There are a range of benefits to joining a playgroup in your local community. Playgroup is a great way for your child/ren to learn about the world, make friends and develop social skills. Playgroup also gives mums, dads, grandparents and caregivers a chance to share ideas and experiences. Many long-term friendships begin at Playgroup!

FAQ’s

What are the ages of the other children? We have varied ages (newborn to 5).

How structured or unstructured is the group? Unstructured. Common components of playgroups are free play, snack time (please bring your own), rhyme/song time and reading time.

What would be expected of you as a member of the group (for example would you need to take a turn to arrange a craft activity now and then)? We ask that parents help set up or pack up, everyone together. It’s mostly a free play environment so no pressure to organise activities! We also ask all parents to make sure they welcome new members and show them what to do. (signing in etc.)

What is the cost of attending? No cost. But we encourage you to register for the Playdate in the Park Playgroup at ACT Playgroups here so you are covered by insurance.  They suggest a donation, but this is not compulsory.

When do you meet? We meet from 9:30-11am on Wednesdays during school terms in the Margaret Hendry School Community Room. If you go to the front office they can show you where that is.

Do I need to book? No pre-booking required, just attend when you can!
