Margaret Hendry School Expansion

Hindmarsh Construction Australia has been appointed as Head Contractor and will undertake the expansion of our school. This engagement will include the detailed design development of the expansion and the planning for construction works to commence.

The Education Directorate commenced planning for the expansion of our school during 2021. This expansion will help support and accommodate enrolment of up to an additional 600 students over the coming decade.

We have been working with the Education Support Office to identify what can be achieved out of the expansion.

To support additional student growth, we will require a new Learning Community for up to 600 students that incorporates general learning settings, specialist learning settings including food technology and Science Technology Engineering Art and Maths (STEAM) and small group programs. An early concept of the new Learning Community is presented below:

As part of the expansion, we will also require additional carparking, external play spaces and flexible outdoor learning areas, along with the expanded administration, library and community facilities. The project will have new learning communities ready for the 2023 school year. We note that this may be impacted by weather and COVID-19 factors.

The school community will be provided regular updates as the project progresses and plenty of notice before construction commences.

New High School for Taylor

Hindmarsh Construction Australia has also been appointed as the Phase 1 contractor for the new high school in Taylor.

The new high school is scheduled to open in 2024 and will be built adjacent to Margaret Hendry School. The high school will accommodate up to 800 high school students and provides state of the art facilities as part of a $118 million investment from the ACT Government in northside schools.

The high school will offer general and specialist learning areas, small group programs, a library and an interactive learning centre. Sport and recreation spaces for students and the community will include a double gymnasium/hall, performing arts spaces and hardcourts.
